It has been decided to launch the "AIR TRAVEL BUBBLE" between Sri Lanka and India soon.  This decision was taken at a meeting between Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, H.E. Gopal Bagle and Tourism Minister, Hon. Prasanna Ranatunga yesterday (24).  The meeting was held at the Ministry of Tourism.

The Government of India has proposed to launch an air travel bubble between Sri Lanka and India.  The proposal was made by the Indian High Commissioner to  Foreign Minister of Sri Lanka and this meeting was held with a view to discuss the next steps in this regard.

Accordingly, discussions were held at length on the resumption of flight operations between the two countries under this air travel bubble and the opening of the country to tourists in accordance with the health guidelines of the two countries.  The discussion also focused on the development of Palaly Airport, Jaffna which was halted due to Covid -19 pandemic, and the resumption of its operations.

Expressing his special gratitude to the Indian High Commissioner for India's support to Sri Lanka's tourism industry, Minister, Hon. Prasanna Ranatunga said that the programme would enhance bilateral relations between the two countries in the field of tourism and aviation.

State Minister, Hon. D.V. Chanaka, Secretary to the Ministry, Mr. S. Hettiarachchi and Secretary to the State Ministry, Mr. Madhava Devasurendra were also present on the occasion.
